Maggie Snyder is the Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor of Viola at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, Artist-Faculty member at the Brevard Music Festival, and Principal Violist of the Chamber Orchestra of New York and this summer 2025 joined the artists at Classical Tahoe. Winners of calls for scores in 2019 and 2020 were Virginia Samuel and Kirsten Volness, both of whom are included on the 2023 release on Arabesque Records titled Womens Writes. A 2024 Call for Scores, along with a new set of commissions from Mary Kouyoumdjian and Tessa Lark (her first commission) resulted in the 2025 release on Arabesque Records titled Women’s Work for Viola: Sounds of Discovery. The resulting recording features forgotten works by women composers K. Dorothy Fox and Ruth Gipps, new commissions by Mary Kouyoumdjian (And a Cry Came from the People for Viola and Piano) and Tessa Lark (Variations on a Moment,Chaconne for solo viola), and the open call for scores winner Sakari Dixon Vanderveer and her Bagatelles: Prelude arranged for viola solo.
